Just because you SAY you’re a Christian doesn’t make you a Christian
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven,”
Before coming to Guatemala I (sometimes) read my Bible, I (generally) went to church, I tried not to sin, I tried to be a nice guy, I tried to do all the things I imagined a Christian should do.
BUT, as I look back, I wouldn’t consider myself a Christian.
Ummm WHAT?
I was living my own version of Christianity. IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE?
Yes, it’s absolutely possible. We can think we’re Christians, do Christian things, “prophesy in His name, drive out demons and perform many miracles, in His name” (Matthew 7:21–23) and still not be Christians.
At the end of 2011 I found myself in Guatemala at a feeding center. It was a Thursday at about 1 in the afternoon and it was on THAT day that I became a Christian. It was the day I gave up my life.
What did that look like exactly?
For me, it was a change inside. “I’m Yours. Your agenda is my agenda. My life is Your life. No going back. No questions asked. Just, tell me to jump and I’ll jump.” EASY TO SAY. Harder to do.
I didn’t say a prayer. I didn’t get baptized. A pastor didn’t bless me. It was just me and the God of the universe.
It’s been an 8-year journey of discovering my faith, understanding Jesus, and falling madly in love with Him. One day, one step, one moment at a time.
