If you keep going to church,
If you keep hosting Wednesday night Bible studies,
Listening to Christian music,
Reading your Bible,
Praying for friends,
Holding potlucks with Christian friends,
Satan will leave you alone.
As long as you don’t ACTUALLY do anything,
Satan will leave you alone.
What if, when you left church, you didn’t go home until you helped someone who was poor?
What if next Wednesday night everyone got on their knees and submitted to God? “Use us Lord. Break our heart for what breaks Yours. Send us.” And you prayed until.
What if, before you prayed…
For most of my life, reading the Bible was brutal. I WANTED to read the Bible but whenever I did, I basically forced myself. I read it because “that’s what Christians do.”
I’ve started a “Read the Bible in 365 days” plan so many times, I’ve lost count.
I’ve tried to read it in the morning, “to start my day off right”. I’ve tried to read it at night, “to end my day well”. I’ve set goal after goal after goal to read the entire Bible in 365 days. Never happened.
The book of Genesis and I are good friends…
And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.” Luke 9:23,24
I think I’ve read that scripture 100 times. And when I read it, I put a nice little checkmark next to it. “Done.”
BUT WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO DENY YOURSELF?
Does it mean I can’t enjoy nice things? That I have to live poorly? …
The cornerstone of Christian faith is belief. It’s our faith.
What do Christians believe?
We believe that God sent His Son.
We believe that Jesus was a man, and He was God.
We believe in the three parts of God: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.
We believe Jesus died on the cross for our sins.
He rose from the dead and ascended into heaven.
We believe Jesus will return.
I think it’s easy to say, “I believe all that. I’m good.”
When you believe, the Bible says you’ll receive the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38)…
There are a few things that got me on the right track and keep me on the right track to this day. I’ll try to split them up over two or three posts.
· “Deny yourself, Take up your cross and Follow Me”
· Bible Reading and Bible Study.
· The Power of Prayer
“What is God’s will for my life?” Many Christians, maybe most Christians, wrestle with that question. I think, as Christians, we WANT to serve God. We WANT to follow Him, but we have no idea what that looks like. “Where do I start? …
As I sit down to write 250 words today, it hit me…I’m ALIVE. I woke up. I GET TO write 250 words.
155,000 people will die today. If you’re reading this, you didn’t. What are you going to do about it?
Get up and go for a walk, because you can.
Take 3 deep breaths, because you can.
Call someone you know you should call.
Take a selfie with someone you love.
Get on your knees, like, literally, on your knees and talk to God.
Thank God for your health.
Thank God you’re alive.
Ask Him to use you today.
While you’re there, repent. Turn your face to…
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven,”
Before coming to Guatemala I (sometimes) read my Bible, I (generally) went to church, I tried not to sin, I tried to be a nice guy, I tried to do all the things I imagined a Christian should do.
BUT, as I look back, I wouldn’t consider myself a Christian.
I was living my own version of Christianity. IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE?
Yes, it’s absolutely possible. We can think we’re Christians, do Christian things, “prophesy in His name, drive out demons and perform many…
I wondered, DO I EVEN LOVE GOD?
I think it’s easy to SAY we love God. But what does that mean? Jesus said to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind.”
I made a commitment that night to stop praying. Sort of. I stopped praying for my businesses. I stopped praying for my health. I stopped praying for safety. I traded all my personal prayers for one, four word prayer.
For an entire year I prayed, “God. I Love You.”
The following November, 2011 I found myself…
Ten years ago I was sitting alone in my basement. My favorite football team, the Denver Broncos, had just lost a game. I felt God speak to me.
“Do you love Me?”
“Yes! Of course I love You?”
“Do you love Me more than you love your wife?”
I paused. And as I thought about it, I knew I loved my wife deeply. We woke up together. We had coffee together. She knew every single thing about me and I knew every single thing about her. I kissed her at night and we were always there for each other. …
One of the reasons I LOVED university was because I could re-invent myself. I didn’t have to be a pot smoking thief. I could be anyone I wanted. I could be myself.
During my last year of college, I got the girl I was dating pregnant. It was at the end of the first semester and I had ELEVEN credits left to graduate.
We decided to keep our baby girl, drop out of school, get married, and make the best of it.
The “best of it” ended in divorce 5 years later with shared custody of our…
